Heroes Camp FAQ

What is Heroes Camp?

Heroes Camp is Hays Hills’ version of VBS. We want to offer a Christian summer camp for children whose parents work and may not be able to attend a shorter day program.

Why is called Heroes Camp?

Each year, we focus on learning about heroes in the Bible. This year’s theme is Walk This Way where we will focus on the most important Bible hero of all, Jesus Christ!

When is Heroes Camp?

Camp is usually the third week in June every summer. This year, it will be June 13th to June 17th.

What are the hours and costs for Heroes Camp?

Half Day camp will be 9:00am - 12:00pm and will be $55.
Full Day camp will be 9:00am - 3:00pm and will be $110.
Extended Day is available from 7:30am - 9:00am and from 3:00pm - 5:30pm for $75 extra.

Are scholarships available?

Yes, full and partial scholarships are available to those with true need. Please contact Stephanie Sherry at hhbcheroescamp@gmail.com for the scholarship information.

What are the ages for camp?

Preschoolers who are 4 by June 13th can attend Half Day camp.
Preschoolers entering kinder in the fall and elementary students kinder-completed 5th grade can attend Full Day camp.
Childcare is available for staff children under age 4.

What do my fees pay for?

Your fees cover the cost of supplies, daily snacks, daily hot lunches, field trips and transportation costs and for paying our quality teachers and some staff.

Why do you pay VBS teachers and some staff? Aren’t most programs staffed with volunteers?

We hire the best, committed teachers and staff. One of the things that sets our program apart is that we seek lead teachers who have teaching experience and are completely committed to the camp. These teachers are well trained before the camp and commit to praying for and discipling the campers in their care. Some support staff positions are also paid; this usually offsets the cost of their camper children to be able to attend camp.

What does a day at camp look like?

Each day, camp begins in the Worship Center, with music and an opening assembly. Then campers disperse with their group and their teachers to their daily  morning rotations of Bible, music, recreation, missions, recess, lunch, or group time. Half day campers do a similar rotation with classroom center time. Some campers will go off campus for a morning service field trip one day. In the afternoons, all elementary campers go to electives. 3rd-5th grade campers will go off campus to swim one afternoon.
Campers reconvene in the Worship Center for closing and dismissal at 2:45.

What are electives?

Electives are afternoon activities that full day campers participate in. K-2 campers go to electives as a class and will do activities like art, baking, crafts and games. 3rd-5th graders get to choose their electives and get to go to their top choices. Electives in the past have included archery, basketball, woodworking, science experiments and more involved crafts.

Are staff positions available?

Yes, please contact Stephanie Sherry at hhbcheroescamp@gmail.com if you are interested in serving on staff, either in a paid position or as a volunteer. All staff must complete an application, interview and a background check.

If I cannot work but want to support camp, how can I help?

We would love your support in any way you can offer. Your support can included praying for camp, donating items for camp or sponsorship's to fund scholarships.
